Chinese brands
In 2020 Chinese brands held about 2% of Kazakhstan's passenger-car market. In 2024 they held 38%. Phones, appliances, tea chains and marketplaces are walking the same path. This page is that list — and why it needs someone standing in the middle.
Background
In 2020 Chinese brands were close to invisible in Kazakhstan's passenger-car market — roughly 2%. By 2024 the figure was 38%. Four years, from the margin to within touching distance of half the market.
This is not one narrow segment getting lucky. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan together account for more than nine tenths of all new-car registrations in Central Asia, and EV penetration in the two countries is still only about 3%. The replacement that has happened took four years. The part that has not happened yet is still ahead of us.
Cars are the most visible entry point, not the only one. Phones, home appliances, tea chains, retail chains, marketplaces — the route is the same in every category: an importer brings the goods, then a flagship store, then local assembly or a franchise network, and finally a standing advertising budget.

The walls
The 20 above are on the ground. What makes this page large is the three walls behind them.
China's overseas expansion did not start with cars. It started with consumer goods, internet platforms and manufacturing. The three have one thing in common: they are already at the top of their market at home or globally, so entering a new country is not a question of whether. It is a question of when, and of which stop on the route.
We show the top 10 of each wall. The full lists — 84, 297 and 311 companies — are the working file we go through brand by brand.
